Inadequate Password Complexity Policies

Some online services have lenient password complexity policies, allowing users to create weak passwords easily. This poses a security risk: Reduced Security: Weak password complexity policies make it easier for attackers to guess passwords or use dictionary attacks. False Sense of Security: Users may perceive their accounts as more secure than they actually are when allowed to create weak passwords. To overcome this challenge, organizations should enforce strong password complexity policies that require users to create passwords with a blend of upper and lower case cultivations, numbers, and special characters. Additionally, they can encourage the use of multi-factor validation (MFA) for an added layer of security. Lack of User Education Many users lack awareness of password security best practices, leading to suboptimal password choices: Weak Password Creation: Users may not understand the importance of strong passwords or how to create them. Limited Awareness of Risks: ...

New AI technology can predict short-term weather

With the ability to accurately predict rain and storms a couple of hours before they strike, people can prepare for the weather.

Current weather forecasting systems can predict the weather days in advance, but new artificial intelligence technology can determine the probability of rain in less than two hours. This has been called "nowcasting."

This DeepMind artificial intelligence forecasting system is working to ensure forecast accuracy. It uses radar data and machine learning to determine the weather. It makes predictions based on previous radars with the help of statistical, economic and cognitive measures. On the other hand, typical weather predictions are based on a planetary scale, which determines the weather several days in advance.

In addition, with climate change, it is increasingly difficult to anticipate the weather. This is due to the increased frequency of rains and more extreme weather conditions.

Knowing the forecast of rains and storms in advance allows us to prepare in our day to day. Most importantly, it can directly benefit water management, outdoor events such as concerts, agriculture, aviation, and flood preparedness, among others.

The new technology has been evaluated by more than 50 expert meteorologists who have ranked it first in their evaluation. They explain that it is accurate in 89% of cases compared to other weather forecasting systems. This would be the first time that meteorologists have preferred a machine learning approach over conventional methods and it demonstrates a positive shift towards the use of AI.

According to the article available in the journal Nature , "we showed that generative nowcasting can provide probabilistic predictions that improve forecast value and support operational utility, and resolutions and timelines in which alternative methods struggle."

It is still early to test and implement this artificial technology, but so far it has proven to be a very beneficial tool.

FUNIBER has numerous courses to learn more about technology and artificial intelligence. Some of these programs are the Master in Digital Transformation and the Master in Strategic Management in Information Technology .
