MSI H370 GAMING PLUS - An economical and practical MOBO
Do you remember the article where Kevin Ferrari treated Intel Optane ? In that article the editor mentioned MSI's 300 series and finally we have the chance to tell you our about MSI H370 GAMING PLUS and B360M MORTAR TITANIUM motherboards . In this article we will cover the more “tamarra” and the larger (ATX) of the two, the MSI H370 GAMING PLUS .
This MOBO, as well as the one mentioned before, is part of
the mid-range of past series 300 of MSI but still offers excellent performance
and features not usually present in such products, such as, for example, two
PCIe 3.0 slots.
Its selling price is around € 100 on Amazon, an attractive
price for those looking to create a mid-low budget configuration; but it's
worth it? Let's find out together, taking a first look at the specifications:
Design, components and features
The H370 GAMING PLUS at first glance is very reminiscent of the design of the Z370 , with its contrast of red and black colors, but despite this it maintains a sober and elegant style. The quality of the construction materials is excellent, thanks to the presence of discrete components of Military Class 5 category, now common practice among the various MSI MOBOs and, in particular, this model which is equipped with Dark CAPs, Hi-C Caps and Titanium Chokes.
There are two PCIe x16 slots in this MOBO, one of these is
reinforced by a special steel support (MSI Steel Armor), which guarantees
greater structural solidity to your GPU; in addition there are 4 PCIe x1 slots,
4 DDR4 slots, compatible with Intel's Xtreme Memory Profile (XMP) 2.0 system,
an M.2 support compatible with 22110 drives ready to be accompanied by an M.2
SSD or even by an Intel Optane.
The audio area is
backlit by a very thin and clearly visible LED strip that can be managed thanks
to Mystic Light , the MSI application that allows the management of the LEDs on
its products. In addition to giving the usual static or rainbow effects, the
led strip allows you to give approximate indications on the CPU temperatures
through the color and its intensity. In addition to this, there are also the EZ
DEBIG LEDs that signal any system problems , such as malfunctions of the
various components, by means of LED lights .
Last, but not least, is the passive cooling systemfor the
“hottest” chips on the MOBO: positioned on the current converters there are two
aluminum heatsinks with a color that follows the style of the card, while the
PCH is cooled by a low profile block. Thanks to these the dissipation of the
H370 GAMING PLUS is almost perfect.
In the MOBO there are 6 different connectors for the fans ,
5 Chassis Fan Connectors, 1 CPU Fan Connettors, and a connector for liquid
cooling. All ports are 4-pin PWM and therefore it is possible to manage the
entire ecosystem of fans and watercooling through the Bios .
A positive note that we appreciated was the clever
positioning of the various components, which allow you to install the cards and
heatsinks of a fairly large size without too many problems . Furthermore, the
sober style requires the user not to create too flashy light configurations. If
you opt for its purchase taking into account creating a configuration with
visible components, we advise you to weigh your choice well considering the
total visual impact.
Input / Output zone
On the connectors in the I / O zone there are: 1 PS / 2
Gaming Device Port, 2 USB 2.0 ports, 1 DVI-D video output, 1 Displayport video
output, 1 USB 3.1 Gen2 Type-A + C port, 2 USB ports 3.1 Gen1, 1 Gigabit LAN, 5
HD Audio connectors and finally an optical S / PDIF output.
A fairly common choice of connectors, even if the absence of
the HDMI video output made us turn up our noses slightly.
